The finals for the Stanford Center on Longevity’s Design Challenge took place on Thursday April 9th, 2015, hosted in collaboration with Aging2.0 and partly sponsored by Tideswell at UCSF. Christine Ritchie, MD, Director of Tideswell, also served on the panel of judges. The winning design was “SPAN” created by Nicholas Steignmann and Maiya Jensen from the California College of the Arts. SPAN is a portable structure that provides older adults with a secure platform to get up and down from the ground in a safe and independent manner. “HandleBar”, the project advised by Janice Schwartz, MD and others from UCSF Geriatrics, was awarded the second place $5,000 prize!
