Measuring the Quality of Palliative Care

There is a growing focus, nationally, on measuring the quality of palliative and end-of-life care.  In an article published in Medical Ethics Advisor, Tideswell director Dr. Christine Ritchie says, “Providers have an ethical responsibility to provide high-quality care for those with serious illness and at the end of life.  By developing measures for this population and for this field, we will be able to better ascertain where we can most improve.” Read the full article here. “This is an important time to make sure that high-quality palliative care is provided across all sites and settings — in the hospital and the home,” she says. Dr. Ritchie is currently working with Dr. Bruce Leff of Johns Hopkins University to identify quality measures for palliative care and primary care delivered in the home.
